What To Watch Out For

Potentially Harmful Ingredients to Watch Out For:

Some of the ingredients and/or additives used in many of today’s so-called “natural” health supplements are actually derived from toxic chemicals that can be potentially harmful to your health when taken over periods of time. Be aware of these additives when looking for supplements for you and your family. A simple label glance can save you from ingesting harmful toxic chemicals, pesticide residue, fillers, animal derivatives, processed sugars, synthetic additives, and hard to digest substances.

  1. Magnesium Stearate - made with hydrogenated cottonseed and/or palm oils that have been heated to extremely high temperatures. This lubricant is also shown to carry a high concentration of pesticide residue.
  2. Microcrystalline Cellulose - typically used in making paper, cardboard, textiles, and wallpaper paste, it is commonly used as a filler in tablets and processed foods.
  3. Silicon Dioxide – common sand used to make glass and cement. Is also used as a pesticide.
  4. Titanium Dioxide – often combined with chloride and other solvents at extremely high temperatures. Commonly used in paint, plastics, cosmetics, and paper due to its highly “reflective” properties.
  5. Stearic Acid - prepared by treating animal fat with water at  extremely high pressure and temperature
  6. Gelatin - derived from beef or pork materials. Oftentimes coming from various boiled “parts” of the animal.
  7. Talc – similar to asbestos and has been linked to tumors and cancer in laboratory tests
  8. Sucrose
- refined sugar that leaches the body of vitamins and minerals
  9. Povidone – synthetic chemical used to create a wax-like “coating” in certain supplements. Also commonly used in gluesticks, batteries, and ceramics.
  10. Pregelatinized Starch – modified, degraded starch used as a thickening agent
  11. Calcium phosphate – chemical used in ceramics, rubber, and fertilizers. Usually derived from animal bones

Other binders and fillers typically found in many drugs, vitamins, and minerals:

  • Red Dye No. 33 and 40
  • Shellac
  • FD&C Blue #1 Aluminum Lake
  • Calcium Stearate
  • Sorbic Acid
  • Sodium Starch Glycolate
